A Tale of Two

A TALE OF TWO — PARALLEL SITUATIONS

My father was being picked up by his brother to go to work. He put something in
the back seat & shut the car door. His brother thought that was my father in the
back seat. Being very outgoing & social he talked all the way to my father who
was a quiet kind of guy & who was left standing at the curb.

I was choking on a piece of meat & Marie ran to tell Tom who was on the phone
with his brother. Tom put down the phone, did the Heimlick “Remover” on me, the
meat popped out, he returned to the phone where his brother was still talking.
His brother is a Presbyterian minister & gives hour sermons uninterrupted. Tom
is man of few words.

    Initial reaction — speechless. 🙂

My wife, her three sisters and mother. Any two of them together, it’s non-stop talking, often at the same time. More than two at a time, I don’t even try to keep up. And the more they talk, the more their Wisconsin accents come out, even down here in Arkansas decades after they all left — except for the youngest. She was only 5 when they left, so her accent is southern redneck — just a good ‘ol girl. 😉

Both the poorer for the experience…

There are two morals to the story.
    1. If you have to talk to your brother, talk on the phone while your wife is around so that you can put the Heimlick hold at need.
    2. If you are prone to choke, don’t eat pieces of meat.

There is one more moral to the story, which I leave to your imagination.

The story of my father (the passenger) and my uncle (the driver) has always amused the family. Not sure why Uncle Hugh would think that our father would want to ride in the back seat. But then again, he must have been absorbed in is own monologue. I have a copy of Uncle Hugh’s autobiography which I love. No surprise, it is entitled “I”m Glad You Asked Me”.

    • I haven’t actually got around to reading the whole of Hugh Jones “I’m Glad You Asked Me”. Jim Jones, our cousin (not the Jim Jones who lead hundreds to suicide) wrote a family history book I liked.

Two Brothers: One North, One South: David H Jones … ( also a cousin)

“With a diligent handling of the primary sources and a creative approach, David Jones has crafted a fine story of Maryland brothers who are Civil War soldiers one fighting for the south, one for the North …
Exceptionally researched and keenly accurate to actual events, this harrowing novel expands upon the story of poet Walt Whitman, whose documented …

Besides this book he published “Prickett’s Fort” & helped establish the recreation as a West Virginia state park.

      I’ll write a book.”The Life of a Housewife”. 😀
